Lily Lake Resort

A Beautiful Natural Landscape

After being vacant for 8 years, new management is now in place and re-opened this iconic resort in May 2017. Features of this expansive property include a unique round house room with central totem pole, historic red barn room, and a spacious outdoor deck overlooking Lily Lake.

Located 40 minutes north of Edmonton or 13 km east of Legal, the resort is located on the site of the former Alberta wildlife park. The facility offers dining services, lounge, banquet space, and special events throughout the year. A variety of meeting room space is available to meet a range of business needs.

Seven types of accommodations are available, featuring a total of 35 rooms. Types of rooms include executive suites, log rooms, and jacuzzi suites. Amenities include gas fireplace, satellite tv, full kitchen option, kuerig coffee makers, and luxurious mattresses. Campground facilities are also available within 22 sites that can accommodate RV’s, motorhomes, and campers with some sites offering full hook ups. 

This large resort is a popular selection for corporate retreats, weddings and large reunions or gatherings. The historic Red Barn Room seats 500 people and its large open space offers the opportunity to enjoy its rustic warmth and open charm on two levels. The round house has a capacity for just over 200 people and the garden room can host up to 500 people. Wedding bookings are popular at this resort and are already being placed 1-2 years in advance.


Within Sturgeon County, the resort is easy to access and is close to a variety of local attractions. The resort is contained on 220 acres of natural habitat and is connected to Lily Lake, which is 3 miles long and features a long-standing bird sanctuary. Within the property is access to a trail system, and seasonal amenities include a volleyball court, ball diamonds, and horseshoe pits. Future attractions in the coming year will be added to include an outdoor kid’s play area and options for horse trail rides plus a variety of unique special events.


Co-owners Brian Blue and Greg Switner were immediately awed by Lily Lake Resort when they toured the property. This natural transition to ownership stemmed from Greg’s background in the hotel/restaurant business for more than 35 years. He was the owner of multiple restaurants and trained in well respected large hotel chains such as the Westin and Delta. Greg’s career spanned throughout the Northwest Territories, BC, Alberta and Prince Edward Island.

Brian’s background focused on a different career path that began in the Canadian Forces with basic training in Nova Scotia and led to further training in Ontario as an Aero Engine Technician. Subsequent moves led him to Moose Jaw, Ottawa, Trenton and Cold Lake. After serving 25 years with the Canadian Forces, Brian transferred over to the private sector in management within Bonnyville and Cold Lake.

Brian and Greg met through the marriage of their children and Greg’s proposition to partner with Brian to re-open Lily Lake Resort has created a solid focus and determination to re-awaken the enjoyment and sense of community this resort generates in Sturgeon County.
